A refrigerator that fights against food waste

While the gesture seems harmless when it comes to cleaning up your fridge, the food waste figures reported for the year are scary: each French person throws on average 20 kilos of food including 7 kilos of products still packaged and not consumed. If we are all aware of the mess, we don't always know how to fix it. The causes of this food waste are varied. We can quote for example the bad reading of the dates of consumption (not to confuse Deadline of Consumption and Deadline of Optimal Use) or the improvised purchase of promotions not necessarily adapted to our consumption. Finally there is our way of life, less framed than before: nothing says that we will be there for dinner. Siemens has decided to help us in this fight against food waste thanks to its VacuumTechnology innovation on its latest Vita Fresh refrigerator. This technology takes the form of a zone located between the refrigerator part and the freezer part. Once your meat or fish is placed in this compartment, a button allows you to expel air from the drawer to create a vacuum atmosphere. From 1000 mbar, the pressure is then reduced to 300 mbar, which prevents the proliferation of germs. Siemens specifies that this mode of conservation makes it possible “to preserve the vitamins and the nutritional quality of food up to 5 times longer”. Siemens, KG 38 QAL 30 refrigerator (€ 1,799.99)
